About

Matt cutting a piece of wood

I am a designer, maker and teacher who hand crafts objects from my home based studio in Sydney, Australia.

I developed a deep connection to the natural world as a child which has led to the use of sustainably sourced, salvaged and recycled materials.

As a trained Cabinetmaker and Teacher with over 20 years teaching experience, I was formally introduced to working with wood at the age of 12 in my first year of high school.

I have been making, studying and teaching woodwork ever since. With a Bachelor of Education in Industrial Arts from the University of Sydney and Certificate III in Cabinetmaking,

I have also sort out instruction from some of Australia’s best known woodturners including Vic Wood, Richard Raffan and Terry Baker.

My work is currently available at Bungendore Woodworks Gallery.

I create beautiful, functional homewares and furniture from sustainable, renewable materials as an alternative to mass produced furniture and homewares.

Handmade objects have the ability to bring joy into the life of both the maker and the user and I hope you enjoy using, handling and viewing the items that I have made as much as I have enjoyed making them.

While I hope you love and enjoy the items that I make, nothing that I make is more beautiful than a living tree.

Currently I teach at Pennant Hills High School a few days a week and run Woodturning and Woodworking classes with Timberbits in Mona Vale on weeknights and weekends throughout the year. Teaching allows me to experience and learn new skills and techniques while helping students work on a far wider range of pieces than I would normally in my own practice. I find that I am constantly learning from both my students and fellow teachers.
